Targets for sustainable development

Nolato’s long-term sustainable development targets cover social responsibility, environmental responsibility and responsible business conduct.

At Nolato, sustainable development is an integral part of our business strategy and daily operations. Guided by a Group-wide double materiality analysis and aligned with European sustainability reporting requirements, we have defined clear targets to 2030 and beyond. Structured around our three focus areas – Our approach to Design, Our approach to Supply Chain and Our approach to Production – these targets support our journey towards net zero and a more circular, responsible value chain.

Science Based Targets initiative

Net-zero target approved

Nolato has committed to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). Our near-term climate targets for Scope 1 – 3 were validated in 2024, and in early 2026 our net zero targets were also approved by SBTi, confirming our commitment to reach net zero greenhouse gas emissions across our value chain by 2045 in line with a 1.5°C pathway.

More about SBTi

Our approach to design

We use design and material choices as key levers to reduce climate impact, support circularity and enable more resource-efficient products. Through tools such as our Eco-Design model and life-cycle thinking, we work to minimize greenhouse gas emissions, reduce waste and keep materials in use for as long as possible.

Our 2030 targets for Our approach to design (base year 2021) are to:

Reduce greenhouse gas emissions

  • Reduce absolute Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 70%.

  • Reduce absolute upstream Scope 3 greenhouse gas emissions by 25%, covering purchased goods and services, capital goods, fuel- and energy-related activities, upstream transportation and distribution, waste from operations, business travel, commuting and upstream leased assets.

  • Achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions across Scopes 1, 2 and 3 by 2045.

Support a circular economy and resource efficiency

  • Increase the volume of sustainable polymer raw materials used in our products five-fold compared with 2021. Sustainable materials include recycled, bio-based and mass-balanced polymers.

  • Reduce the total volume of waste generated from our own operations by 10% compared with 2021.

  • By 2030, develop and launch at least three customer partnerships that enable circular product flows, such as take-back, repair, refurbishment or reuse of post-consumer materials.

These targets reflect our ambition to integrate climate and circular-economy considerations into customer solutions from the earliest stages of product development.

Our approach to suppliers

We work actively to build supplier relationships based on responsibility, transparency and a long-term approach. A sustainable supply chain means that our partners share our values and follow principles of human rights, environmental consideration and ethical business conduct, anchored in the Nolato Supplier Code of Conduct.

Our 2030-related target for Our approach to suppliers is to:

Responsible value chain

  • Ensure that 100% of Nolato’s key suppliers are evaluated and comply with the Nolato Supplier Code of Conduct by 2027.

By engaging with our suppliers through dialogue, assessments and joint initiatives, we aim to strengthen sustainability performance across the entire value chain, including climate, circularity and responsible business practices.

Our approach to production

Our production philosophy is based on continuous improvement, LEAN principles and efficient use of resources. We strive to decouple growth from environmental impact, promote a safe and inclusive workplace and ensure robust governance and compliance.

Our 2030 targets for Our approach to production (base year 2021 where applicable) are to:

People and social responsibility

  • Achieve a gender balance in local management teams within a 40/60 range.

  • Continually reduce the number of workplace accidents, with our Lost Time Accident Rate (LTAR) decreasing by 6% per year from 2024 and reaching below 5.0 by 2030.

  • Conduct an annual global employee engagement survey and implement local improvement initiatives within six months of receiving the results.

Governance, culture and compliance

  • Ensure that all Group production facilities with more than 50 employees are certified according to the ISO 14001 environmental management standard.

  • Make sure that 100% of employees complete training every three years in the Nolato Spirit, the Nolato Code of Conduct and procedures related to anti-corruption, with all newly recruited employees trained as part of their onboarding.

  • Have no cases of bribery, corruption or cartel formation, and provide explicit annual anti-corruption training for roles with identified risk exposure.

Energy and resource efficiency

  • Improve energy efficiency by reducing energy consumption per net sales (GWh/SEKm) by 5%.

  • Ensure that 100% of our electricity consumption comes from renewable sources and that more than 95% of our total energy mix is renewable by 2030.

Together, these targets help ensure that our production creates maximum value for customers with minimal negative environmental impact and supports a strong, values-driven corporate culture.

Following up on progress

We monitor and report on our progress towards these targets each year in the Nolato Annual Report and Sustainability Report. As expectations and regulations evolve, we will continue to refine our targets and actions so that Nolato creates long-term value for customers, employees, shareholders and society, while contributing to a more sustainable future.
