Story
How can EMI be contained?
In simple terms, most ‘shielding’ problems could be solved by welding the equipment into seamless steel box.

Story
What are the main sources of EMC problems?
In all cases there has to be a source and a victim for a path to exist thereby permitting a radiated or conducted coupling. RF Interface (sometimes referred to as RFI), more correctly known as Electromagnetic interface (EMI), results from the operation of electrical or electronic devices involving rapidly changing voltage or current levels and which cause the generation of electromagnetic energy at discrete frequencies and over frequency bands.

Story
Other considerations for deciding the correct type of gasket
Very often, the design of the equipment enclosure will itself dramatically limit the choices of gasket materials. Some enclosures are light-weight aluminium or even plastic with very little potential for withstanding distortion during compression of the shielding gasket.

Story
How are seams and joint lines sealed?
Joints should be regarded as permanent or temporary (permitting occasional access). Permanents joints and seams should be welded, soldered, or conductively bonded with a special adhesive. If screws or rivets are employed, particular attention should be given to gaps and bulges between the mating surfaces. Ideally these should be gasketed and should even contain ‘limit stops’ inside the gaskets to prevent distortion of the mating surfaces.

Story
Why must we achieve EMC?
Other than the fact that products which do not comply cannot be marketed legally in the EC, more disruptive manifestations would exist that could affect the very manner in which we lead out lives.

Story
