Project/Cost Engineer

Cost Engineering and Systems Manager
The Project/Cost Engineer will be responsible for the preparation of mold construction, piece part and assembly cost estimates. Works directly with customers, engineering managers, and commercial leaders, as necessary to develop competitive cost strategies. May also participate in design reviews, advanced quality planning, molding trials, project management and debug of molds, processes and equipment.
Develop in-house tooling cost estimates based on customer supplied information (sketches, prints, models, etc.). Benchmark outside tool shops as required.
Estimate piece part production costs including cycle times, runner weights, part weights and packaging.
Estimate costs for secondary and assembly.
Estimate costs for quality submissions.
Assist in qualifying vendors for equipment, parts and services.
Assist in manufacturing cost reductions of molds and molding.
Evaluate new manufacturing procedures and make recommendations.
Consult with customers, vendors, or other individuals to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues.
Bachelor’s degree preferred with minimum 10 years’ experience in a similar role.
Will also consider Associates degree and 10-15 years related experience and/or the equivalent combination.
Knowledge of injection mold design, construction & debug.
Knowledge of plastic materials and processing methods.
Knowledge of DFA/DFM principals.
Must be familiar with injection molding plastics for the automotive, medical and/or electronic industry.
Knowledgeable in quality standards, PPAP, IQ/OQ/PQ and geometric tolerancing.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of instructions furnished in written, verbal, diagram or schedule form.
Strong math skills including geometry, algebra and the ability to calculate product volumes, part and runner weights.
Attention to detail; excellent organizational, time management and record keeping skills.
Able to understand and interpret blueprints of plastic parts, assemblies and systems to a high level of competency.
Ability to identify problems and communicate solutions in an accurate and concise manner both electronically and verbally.
Ability to analyze quality requirements and associated costs.
Meticulous attention to detail.
Experience with CAD systems required.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite & Windows operating environment.
Must be able to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
Ability to adapt quickly.
Must be able to function well as an individual as well as in a team-oriented environment.
