JOB TITLE:

Mold Maintenance Team Leader

DEPARTMENT:

Bethel Operations - Mold Maintenance/Engineering

REPORTS TO:

VP of Manufacturing Engineering and Bethel Plant Manager

 

DESCRIPTION:

The Mold Maintenance Team Leader coordinates the daily routine maintenance, minor alterations and minor repairs of molds and mold components to support manufacturing.

Duties will include interfacing with the Production Scheduling Department to establish daily/weekly work priorities ensuring that required tools are ready for production as scheduled to meet customer deliveries.

This position will include the direct supervision of all Mold Maintenance Personnel and Toolmakers in the Bethel facility. The Mold Maintenance Team Leader will also work closely with the Manufacturing Sr. Tooling Engineer/Mold Improvement Coordinator to coordinate major tool repairs and customer ECNs with the Nolato GW Mold Division and external mold repair suppliers.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and responsibilities:

  • Requires the ability to plan and lay out own work.

  • Disassembles, cleans, reassembles molds as needed.

  • Works from detailed design drawings, engineering drawings, sketches and verbal instructions.

  • Determines accurate and efficient methods to construct and repair molds.

  • Selects proper metals and other materials and lays out work using precision measuring instruments, shop mathematics and applicable formulas.

  • Sets up and operates all types of tool room equipment, which includes: EDM, lathes, mills, grinders, heat treating ovens, drill presses, etc.

  • Uses various measuring instruments such as calipers, dial indicators, micrometers, etc.

  • Checks own work and the work of others to close tolerances.

  • Determines the sequences of operation, method of fabrication, type and amount of machine work or process operations required.

  • Contributes in the design and development of automation equipment including de-gating stations, end-of-arm tooling and conveyor systems.

  • Tracks repair and cleaning history on all molds.

  • Must be able to give realistic quotes and meet delivery commitments.

  • Maintains a safe, organized, and clean work environment at all times.

  • Coordinates the non-standard “On Call” list to handle “Emergency A1 Repairs”.

  • Performs Other Duties As Requested By The Plant Manager.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Professional Toolmaker, GW Apprentice Graduate or 5 plus years of mold making experience required.

  • Frequent lifting of material 5-25 pounds. Occasional lifting of 40 pounds.

  • Ability to contribute in an environment characterized by teamwork, hands on participation, safety awareness, growth and change.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills necessary to maintain relationships with customers and co-workers.

  • Ability to work with little or no supervision.
