The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for providing engineering and production support to Nolato GW Silicones' manufacturing facility in the areas of mold, fixture, and automation design, as well as processing support and troubleshooting, and working with customers on a technical level.



  • Designing production molds and valve-gated cold runners specific to liquid silicone

  • Assisting in the manufacture and debugging of production silicone molds manufactured at GW Plastics;

  • Completing prototype designs and working with customers on designs for the manufacture of their components

  • Designing and debugging automation specific to the molding of liquid silicone

  • Specifying system components and developing standards that relate to silicone tooling

  • Establishing and documenting a silicone tool building process utilizing in house and external mold shops

  • Developing press side automation cells and robotic end of arm tools specific for silicone molded components

  • Generating engineering and quality documentation to support new equipment and tooling being introduced into the silicone production area;
     Interfacing with production, planning, and quality to ensure efficient communication and resolution of problems

  • Assisting drafters in developing the structure design of products using drafting tools or computer-assisted design (CAD) or drafting equipment and software

  • Researching, designing, evaluating, installing, operating, and maintaining mechanical products, equipment, systems, and processes to meet requirements, applying knowledge of engineering principles

  • Conferring with engineers and other personnel to implement operating procedures, resolve system malfunctions, and provide technical information

  • Recommending design modifications

  • Conducting research that tests and analyzes the feasibility, design, operation and performance of equipment, components, and systems

  • Investigating equipment failures and difficulties to diagnose faulty operation and to make recommendations to maintenance crew

  • Developing and testing models of alternate designs and processing methods to assess feasibility, operating condition effects, possible new applications, and necessity of modification

  • Developing, coordinating, and monitoring all aspects of production, including selection of manufacturing methods, fabrication, and operation of product designs

  • Specifying system components or direct modification of products to ensure conformance with engineering design and performance specifications


  • Engineering or Science B. S., Technical Certificate or equivalent required.
  • Must have desire to design molds and fixtures using Solidworks or UG software and learn specific skills required for silicone molding and silicone mold design.
  • Computer literate in programs such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Extensive on-site training will be offered for this position so the ability to learn quickly and operate independently is mandatory.
  • Must be willing to learn new skills and apply them in a fast paced environment.
  • Good communication skills necessary.
  • Strong analytical skills necessary.
  • Attention to detail is a must for silicone tool design
  • Basic knowledge of tool and die and general machining principles an asset
  • Measurement skills, including hands-on experience with calipers, micrometers, tool scopes, etc. desirable.
  • Ability to travel when needed (less than 10% of the time).
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs.
  • Other duties as required or requested
