Dynamic market for medical devices in Ireland

Nolato produces injection-molded components for medical devices at its plant in Sligo, in the north of the Republic of Ireland.

Dynamic market for medical devices in Ireland

When Nolato acquired the North American plastics group GW Plastics back in 2020, it included a company based in Ireland.

Based in Sligo, Ireland, the company has mainly been manufacturing injection molds for the past 40 years. The company has now been developed and expanded, and has a strong focus on the production of medical devices for customers in surgery, laboratory products, pharmaceuticals, etc.

“Ireland is a really dynamic market,” comments Ricardo Silva, Managing Director of Nolato Sligo. “It’s home to lots of successful medtech and pharmaceutical companies that we’re keen to help produce advanced products for.”

In Sligo, Nolato now has a comprehensive range of injection molding with production of medical device components in class 8 cleanrooms, composite products and pharmaceutical packaging.

“By becoming part of Nolato, we’ve acquired expertise and resources to support medical device and pharmaceutical customers not only with injection molding, but also with the design and development of advanced components for medical devices and pharmaceuticals,” notes Ricardo Silva.

Injection blow molding

Nolato Sligo has now added a new string to its bow – injection blow molding, which will be used for the production of pharmaceutical packaging. Nolato has been using the technique for many years at Nolato Cerbo in Trollhättan, Sweden, and Nolato Jaycare in Newcastle, UK.

Third building

The businesses in Sligo are currently operating in two adjacent buildings. And a third building is now under construction to satisfy customers’ interest in expansion. It will be ready for use in the second quarter of 2025, and will bring a potential capacity increase of 50 injection molding machines.
